👋 Hellooooo Companions,
This week’s newsletter changes things up a bit. Instead of sharing another wonderful story from Purpose: Embracing Mental Health as a Fandom, I wanted to tell you a little bit more about what you can expect from the book.
New to The Companion?
Consider signing up to our free newsletter, and you will get more of these stories in your inbox.
Here’s the latest book update:
- Read Amanda’s introduction to the book
- Catch up on Moon’s story from Chapter 3: Courage
- If you’d like to stay up-to-date with the book, here’s our public To-Do list
And if you can do me a favor, please share this newsletter with a friend who might be interested.
Activities from Purpose
One of things I love most about fandom is the creativity from the community, and it’s clear from the stories we have writers, musicians, and photographers amongst us.
A few have gone one step further and submitted something unique. You’ll find poems, hundreds of you have contributed to our infographics, and one entry inspired us to add a few activities.
We received a story from a contributor named Ginelle about participating in GISH—a worldwide scavenger hunt run by Misha Collins, the actor who played the fan-favorite angel Castiel from Supernatural.
Unlike a standard scavenger hunt where you’d go find things, GISH inspired you to create things.
So today, I present to you Purpose’s GISH-inspired creator challenges for you to do:
- Create fan art using only items from your kitchen
- Film your pet (or stuffed animals) reenacting a scene from your favorite show
- Write a thank you letter to a character who helped you through tough times
- Design a book cover for the autobiography of your favorite villain
- Create a playlist that tells the story of your fandom journey
Try one this week and tag @thecompanionapp. I’ll share my favorites in a future newsletter.
