Scanners Heads to HBO with Black Mirror, Stranger Things Writer

HBO is adapting David Cronenberg’s 1981 sci-fi horror Scanners for TV, with Black Mirror and Stranger Things writer William Bridges as showrunner.

Lovecraft Country director/executive producer Yann Demange will also serve as executive producer on the show, along with the original movie’s writer and director David Cronenberg.

Scanners – which spawned four increasingly poor sequels/spin-offs – followed the efforts of rogue Scanner – someone with telepathic and telekinetic powers – Darryl Revok (Michael Ironside) as he attempted to take down weapons manufacturer ConSec, who are attempting to control and exploit the unstable psychics.
