Mixed fortunes for science fiction at the 2022 Emmys as Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and Loki failed to make good on their nominations
Star Wars didn’t fare much better, with only Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Season or a Movie for The Book of Boba Fett‘s 4 nominations. Similarly, Moon Knight bagged only Outstanding Sound Editing for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie or Special for its 5 nominations.
Chadwick Boseman scored a posthumous win in Outstanding Character Voiceover Performance for his poignant performance in the What If…? episode ‘What If… T’Challa Became a Star-Lord?’ (S1, Ep2).
Animated anthology Love, Death + Robots also scored a win in Outstanding Short Form Animated Program for the episode ‘Jibaro’ (S3, Ep6).
Beneficiaries of the pandemic streaming buzz when we would have watched a trash bag catching fire if they spread it across eight hour-long episodes on Netflix, Squid Game managed to convert its 9 nominations into 4 wins, and Stranger Things converted 13 nominations into 5 wins.
From what we’ve seen of Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3, Mike McMahan is using every part of the Starfleet buffalo in his quest for comedy.
