Legendary Videogames Artist Oliver Frey has Passed Away

Oliver Frey, most recently known for his work on Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, died on August 21st at 74.

Although best known for his defining cover illustrations for Newsfield Publications’ gaming magazines like Zzap!64 and Crash, Frey’s career ran from 1970s gay erotica under the name Zack, to British comics such as War Picture Library, the Trigan Empire in Look & Learn, and the 1980s revival of Dan Dare.

He also created covers for the science fiction, fantasy, and horror magazine Fear and the 1930s-style comic-book art in the opening credits of Richard Donner’s Superman (1978).

In 2018, Frey designed a Crash cover for Netflix’s interactive Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018) staring Will Poulter.
