Star Wars: The Acolyte Casts Amandla Stenberg and Trolls Better Watch Out

The Hunger Games and The Hate U Give star Amandla Stenberg has joined The High Republic-set series as the yet-unnamed main character

That lewk is 🔥

The Acolyte is being developed by Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland and is set a century prior to Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, an era when the Sith are believed to be extinct.

Having played Rue in The Hunger Games, Stenberg has already had a crash course in dealing with the nastier end of fandom. They reflected on the racist outpouring during a BuzzFeed News interview in 2018, saying “there was resistance to having black girls in films, and that black women are dehumanized and their lives are seen as less valuable than white lives.

“I realized that I had a platform that could be impactful if I harnessed it.”

Obviously, we’d much rather Star Wars fandom not be racist, but as an outspoken activist in that space, Amandla Stenberg isn’t going to be an easy target.
