Week in Geek is The Companion‘s weekly digest of all the latest trailers, announcements, controversies, spicy memes, and more. Not everyone has the time or inclination to sit on social media all day staying on top of this… but we do and we need to justify the time we’ve wasted.

What We’re Looking At
What We’re Talking About
After slumping towards a lowkey third movie in 2016 with Star Trek Beyond, JJ Abrams’ Kelvin timeline is back. The fourth outing for Chris Pine’s Kirk is due to start filming later this year and is being directed by WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman with a script by Josh Friedman (Snowpiercer) and Cameron Squires (WandaVision).
According to Discussing Film, Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts has been tapped for a forthcoming Star Wars series, skewing towards a Stranger Things demographic. It’s the Mods, isn’t it?
Love this idea for Nirvana's album! Also, I never would have retroactively sued the band (like the original Cover-Baby did after he grew up). https://t.co/LG6s3FqZBw— Mark Hamill (@HamillHimself) February 19, 2022
Whilst we’re on the subject, Star Wars‘ iconic Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill, spent my birthday RTing The Companion and I’m still screaming.
Ant-Man star Evangeline Lilly has taken the turn by voicing her support for Canadian anti-vaxxers.
Our very own Alasdair Stuart has a new book out as part of Obverse Books’ Gold Archive series of Star Trek monographs. Check it out right heckin’ now.
Cubicle 7, the developers behind the Doctor Who RPG, have announced that the Whoniverse is about to vworp-vworp into Dungeons & Dragons 5E with Doctors & Daleks.
In other roleplaying news, Green Ronin is redeeming HP Lovecraft with Cthulhu Awakens – their inclusive new take on the Mythos. The Kickstarter has already smashed its goals.

Sci-fi fandom needs your help. Nobody else writes the deep dive articles we do. Nobody else creates in-depth interview podcasts or invites you to put questions to showrunners and stars. And nobody else treats your favorite sci-fi shows and movies like they matter – like they can save lives or change them – but we do.
None of that is cheap. Great writing costs money, original analysis costs money, and audio/video production costs money. We keep our costs as low as we can, but we refuse to compromise on quality.
We’re not backed by studios or massive media conglomerates. There are five of us fighting every second to make The Companion all that it can be. We’ll never accept paid advertising on The Companion because if we did we wouldn’t be able to write about whatever you like, the way that you like.
That’s why we need geeks like you to join us.
Sign up now. If you don’t like it, simply cancel and you won’t be charged. But if you do stay, your membership goes towards creating more of the content you love on the sci-fi shows and movies that you love.
