Week in Geek | Hawkeye First Trailer –Bishop and Barton Take a Bow

Week in Geek is The Companion‘s weekly digest of all the latest trailers, announcements, controversies, spicy memes, and more. Not everyone has the time or inclination to sit on social media all day staying on top of this… but we do and we need to justify the time we’ve wasted.

If you’d like Week in Geek poured piping hot into your inbox every Monday, sign up here.

What We’re Talking About

Small but juicy, Anakin Skywalker star Hayden Christensen appeared at Florida Supercon this weekend wearing a stunt crew cap from the Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

An embarrassment of riches came out of #StarTrekDay including a teaser for Star Trek: Picard Season 2 (and confirmation that it’s back for a Season 3), a first full trailer for Star Trek Prodigy, and a featurette for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds that introduces the rest of the cast, including Cadet Uhura ✊

James Gunn tweeted an epic stack of his hand-drawn storyboards for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. What I wouldn’t give to have just one of those…

Bit of a sad one, but Doctor Who guest star Tanya Fear has been reported missing in the LA/Hollywood Bowl area. If that’s where you’re at, please take a look at the details.

Great sci-fi representation at this year’s Creative Arts Emmys, celebrating technical achievement in TV. The Mandalorian was the big genre winner, netting 7 awards including two for stunts, one for VFX, and one for prosthetics. WandaVisionLove, Death + Robots, and Lovecraft Country* each managed two wins, and Star Trek: Discovery crept in with a single VFX win. (*The Cthulhu Mythos is sci-fi, let me have this).

What We’re Watching

Now the pain of the last Matrix film is but a bitter memory, we’re ready as a civilization for the first Matrix Resurrections trailer

Take a bow! Clint Barton and Kate Bishop battle back-to-back against Clint’s ghosts of Christmas past in the first trailer for Disney+’s Hawkeye series.

Fandom needs your help. Nobody else writes the deep dive articles we do. Nobody else creates in-depth interview podcasts or invites you to put questions to showrunners and stars. And nobody else treats your favorite sci-fi shows and movies like they matter – like they can save lives or change them – but we do.

None of that is cheap. Great writing costs money, original analysis costs money, and audio/video production costs money. We keep our costs as low as we can, but we refuse to compromise on quality.

We’re not backed by studios or massive media conglomerates. There are five of us fighting every second to make The Companion all that it can be. We’ll never accept paid advertising on The Companion because if we did we wouldn’t be able to write about whatever you like, the way that you like.

That’s why we need geeks like you to join us

Sign up now for a free trial. If you don’t like it, simply cancel and you won’t be charged. But if you do stay, your membership goes towards creating more of the content you love on the sci-fi shows and movies that you love.
