Week in Geek | Babylon 5 Creator Has Plans for Doctor Who

Week in Geek is The Companion‘s weekly digest of all the latest trailers, announcements, controversies, spicy memes, and more. Not everyone has the time or inclination to sit on social media all day staying on top of this… but we do and we need to justify the time we’ve wasted.

If you’d like Week in Geek poured piping hot into your inbox every Monday, sign up here.

What We’re Talking About

With news that Jodi Whittaker and Chris Chibnall are about to step down from Doctor Who, J. Michael Straczynski took to Twitter to throw his hat into the ring. A prolific writer of comic books – The Amazing Spider-Man, Superman: Earth One – and TV, he created Babylon 5 and co-created Sense8 with the Wachowski.

Hands are being wrung over the subpar box office performance of the spectacular Suicide Squad, which netted only $26.5m in its US opening weekend. We need to keep this in perspective – there is a global catastrophe on, guys.

The Orville Season 3 has been stuck in stop-start mode thanks to Covid and the move to Hulu, but we’re back in business. Hulu’s Jordan Helman hyped up the footage he’s seen and teased a possible Season 4.

What We’re Watching

Marvel’s animated oddity What If…? is coming Wednesday on Disney+, so drink in the new footage of Captain Carter in this featurette.

Check out the first teaser for Stranger Things Season 4, coming 2022. New footage creeps in at about 20 seconds so get that pause button ready.
