Last week we released an amazing Brad Wright and Michael Shanks interview podcast, broke major Stargate revival news, and launched a massive fundraising drive all at once. All this manic activity was in support of the amazing charity Special Effect, which supplies bespoke controllers, consoles and joysticks for gamers whose disabilities restrict their access.
By reserving the extended cut of Brad’s new podcast, Conversations in Sci-Fi – 78-minutes of insights and introspection from the Stargate SG-1 co-creator and his star – for members only, the Stargate community came together and raised close to $1,500.
Anyone who has ever dismissed your interests in ‘spaceships’ just had a rude awakening. This family of ours showed up and proved to the world you can make a difference in the lives of hundreds of young people with disabilities.
It was also super cool to see the reaction to Brad’s podcast interview with Michael – as well as the revelation that Daniel Jackson has a role in the new Stargate series (come on MGM, hook us up) that the showrunner is developing. Massive thanks to our friends at Syfy Wire, Tor.com, Den of Geek, GateWorld, Arthur C. Clarke Award, and SciFiNow.co.uk for celebrating our exclusive and spreading the good word.
A shoutout too to Joseph Mallozzi for his kind support on social media, as well as the dream team of Michael Shanks and Brad Wright who made all of this possible.
Most importantly though, thank you. Companion members new played such a vital part in raising this money and spreading the word – especially the charity team on our Discord and the new subscribers who joined up specifically to hear the extended cut of Brad Wright’s Conversations in Sci-Fi. We are so grateful to you all for your passion for both Stargate and for making the world a better place.
There’s no time to rest on our laurels though, we’ve got a ton of exciting new projects lined up, including new long-reads on Farscape, Quantum Leap, Star Trek, and Space Precinct, video interviews from the 20th anniversary of Star Trek: Enterprise, and the second episode of Brad Wright’s Conversations in Sci-Fi, featuring Travelers (and Will & Grace) star, Eric McCormack.
