Companion Update

Introducing SciFiNow+, a New Magazine for Our Members | Companion Update 6

This looks like a lot of words, doesn’t it? Skip to the end for the tl:dr version.

Whilst we’re focused mainly on the past, we know that you guys have a cautious eye on the future too. There are tons of awesome new sci-fi shows, movies, books and comics flying through the ether at you and making informed decisions about where you should be spending your time has gotten harder and harder. Thanks clickbait, thanks for that.

We miss magazines, properly well-informed magazines full of great writing and with an editor who can bring back that sense of curation and take you on a voyage of discovery with every single issue. Well, miss them no longer because we’ve teamed up with SciFiNow – a stalwart ally to Stargate right from its launch back in 2007 – to bring you SciFiNow+, a new fortnightly digital magazine included with your Companion membership.

That means you get all of the cool app features that you have right now, but on top of that you get access to a whole new feed that reflects reflect the magazine experience as closely as (in)humanly possible, with high-quality covers, world-beating entertainment journalism, news, reviews, analysis, retro throwback features, and interviews, all under the curation of Editor Rachael Harper who also oversees

SciFiNow+issue 1 is released 15 December – that’s next Tuesday – and leads with exclusive coverage of the eagerly anticipated and much-delayed Wonder Woman 1984, including an interview with director Patty Jenkins as well as SF&F author interviews, news, reviews and a Flashback retro feature on The Outer Limits.

Unlike the print magazine which was released every four weeks, SciFiNow+ will be released fortnightly. This change in frequency will allow for closer coverage of the streaming shows and movies that have come to dominate lives with the onset of Covid-19, allowing the magazine content to shape the debate around shows like The Mandalorian, The Expanse and Star Trek: Discovery.

If you’re not yet a Companion member, or have been waiting for the tastiest hook to encourage your friends to join then now is the time. To celebrate the launch of SciFiNow+ we’re offering a 40% discount on monthly and yearly memberships until Friday December 18, 11:59pm PST.

All you have to do is use the promo code ‘SciFiNow40’ and the discount will be applied at the checkout.

TL:DR version

  • Every two weeks members will also get SciFiNow+ beamed directly into their faces via The Companion app. Yaaay!
  • SciFiNow+ a sexy new digital magazine from the makers of SciFiNow, covering the hottest new sci-fi, fantasy and horror.
  • That’s on top of all the wicked features you get from The Companion already.
  • And if you’re not a member, now’s your chance – use the discount code ‘SciFiNow40’ to get a whopping 40% off an annual or monthly membership. But ruh-oh, offer ends Friday December 18, 11:59pm PST so act fast.
